People Pride Progress
Springfield Township has a contract with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office to have one dedicated deputy assigned to ensure a presence within the Township.
Deputy Jake Shaw
Deputy Shaw attended Northwestern High School. He later joined the Army after High School and served in Operation Enduring Freedom. He completed his Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training at Clark State Community College in 2014. Deputy Shaw was hired as a cadet in the Investigations Division. In January of 2015, Deputy Shaw was hired as a full-time deputy.
In 2017, Deputy Shaw was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. He has completed many trainings such as ARIDE and Intermediate crash investigation. Deputy Shaw is a member of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and has completed Basic Swat and Advanced Swat training through the Ohio Tactical Officers Association. Deputy Shaw has served as a field training officer in both the Jail and Uniform Patrol Divisions.
Deputy Shaw transferred to Springfield Township in October 2022.
What is the advantage of having dedicated police protection in our Township vs a Township that does not have such protection?
The dedicated personnel provided through this contract allows the Sheriff’s Office to provide more services to the Township residents. Dedicated means Deputy Shaw does not normally take calls outside the assigned area unless providing back-up support to other Deputies. Dedicated service reduces response time for a call for police protection and traffic enforcement.
The main advantage to the partnership is the ability to focus on Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving. The partnership allows more visibility to deter crime in the Township and more time devoted to Township residents’ complaints.
